In terms of my art-ing journey, one of the significant steps I have taken during 2025 was to further my study in Master of Art. It was a 1 year coursework based Master course that will span till July 2026. Since this is not research based course, there is no need for a complete a research for graduation but mostly completing assignments in class. There is though a mini research project at the end of the course, still require a mini dissertation, not as hectic as a research base Master…I guess.
The class demographic is quite extreme, we have a 80s watercolor artist, a 40s acrylic painter, and few China’s international student. The older one had some difficulties with technology, while the Chinese students facing some language barriers. In general, I would say the potential of the class is not fully realized.
Though it is a good input for me, at least there are some subjects for me to delve into, such as Critical theory, Typography and Installation Art. Still there is a slight expectation difference, firstly is the level of information (difference in students’ level), secondly the course is more on the academic side (which I have discussed in my previous “Rethinking Postgraduate Studies for Art” post). I will make a review of the subjects later when I finished the whole course.
I have in mind a few purposes when enrolling this course (1) redeem my art education (2) delve deeper in Art related studies (3) tap into local institution resources . I am currently enjoying the outcome, going back to school after years of working really did give a new stimulation. I have set for myself a target to accomplish for my Art journey and the deadline is by the end of 2027. If I cant achieve my target by then, most probably I will call for a stop. Before that, I shall enjoy the process to the fullest.
Cheers,
Jon
